Introducing the core of computational and intelligent social sciences
In the era of data explosion and smart technology developments, social sciences are facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. The establishment of this core is a strategic response to this growing global need and a national necessity for scientific leadership and solving complex problems of Iranian society.
Traditional social sciences often lack tools for analyzing big data and complex human patterns. By combining advanced computational methods (complex network analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, complex social systems analysis, etc.) and social and sociological theories, this core provides a deeper understanding of diverse social concepts and phenomena and social dynamics and movements.
On the other hand, Iran is facing unique socio-cultural issues. By focusing on "native data", this core will develop predictive and intelligent simulation models for more accurate policymaking.
Also, this core acts as a bridge between the faculties of social sciences, engineering, computer science, and statistics, and intends to accelerate innovation in social research methodology by creating interdisciplinary research groups.
Therefore, it has put missions such as “training a new generation of social researchers proficient in computational and intelligent tools”, “developing applied projects”, and finally “creating a data sharing platform and open source codes for the country’s scientific community” on its agenda.
Finally, the Computational and Intelligent Social Sciences Research Core seeks to transform the University of Tehran into one of the leading hubs of computational social sciences in the region and, by producing indigenous knowledge and new tools, play an unparalleled role in “empowering national institutions”, “promoting data-driven governance”, and “establishing Iran’s scientific authority”. Because in a world where the boundary between the "social" and the "digital" has blurred, establishing this core is an "inevitable necessity" for a pioneering university like the University of Tehran.
