Department of Demography

The Department of Demography at the University of Tehran began accepting under-graduate students in 1973. After the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the establishment of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the study of demography was abolished as an independent program. The need of Iranian society for specialists in the field of demography and the necessity for development and improvement in the quality of education in demographics, the Department of Demography commenced its activities and opened two programs – both at the master's and PhD level.

Our graduates are able to excel at different planning and research institutes, policymaking organizations, universities, various ministries including education, statistics, planning and development, health, state agencies, NGOs, and civil society organisations that engage in or are in need for expertise in the field of demography.
